Part of the Black Earth series, this vessel captures the raw, elemental spirit of the San Gabriel Mountains. Built by hand and finished with a wild clay slip foraged from the mountain’s terrain, its surface reveals layers of earthy texture and gestural movement. Jagged, weathered, and expressive, the vase evokes something unearthed—ancient yet alive.

Each form in this series is unique, guided by improvisation and the clay’s natural behavior. This piece functions as both a sculptural object and a vessel.
